Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Campaign: We Were Hacked by opponent Phil Angelides. The campaign of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Democratic rival acknowledged Tuesday that it downloaded , then made public,  a recording of a meeting in which the governor described a Hispanic legislator as having a “very hot” personality.

The files were stored “in a password-protected area of the governor’s office network computer system,” and should not have been accessible to outsiders.Andrea Lynn Hoch, said in a statement.

But Cathy Calfo, campaign manager for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides, said her organization was on the side of the angels, both in accessing the file and downloading it, because the file was available on Schwarzenegger’s “publicly available” Web site. Therefore, Calfo says, it was a far cry from the alleged hacking.

The governor was criticized last week after the LA Times reported that during a conversation in March with Susan Kennedy, his chief of staff, and Gary Delsohn, his speechwriter, Schwarzenegger referred to Latinos and African Americans — specifically Republican Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, who is of Puerto Rican descent — as having “hot” blood or a passionate temperament.

Democratic opponent Treasurer Phil Angelides, called the governor’s remarks an affront to minorities.
