You have found So Cal Central. The place for odd and creative, or maybe offbeat musings in Southern California. The Untitled One's Comments: Commentary dateline Thursday June 13, 2003 Your Unsighted One loves technology. But Technology is a crutch. And even worse sometimes it is an excuse not to work. It seems that whenever there is any kind of "upgrade of an OS, a network or whatever, inherent in the obvious costs are the man hours lost to downtime and the learning curve effect. I wonder how many networks in offices across this great land is really an over sophisticated typewriter mill. I witnessed just this in an employment agency once. There was no reason in the world to be networked. They have a guy full time watching over the network. Does this company have an digitized resume/name database? Nope. The majority of the people send email and use Word. Seems like a waste of money. Which is my point. Technology is a terrific tool. But it is just that a tool. Many companies such as my recruiter friends use it for email and Word Docs. That will never change. So that company must support that. And the dollars that went to networking should have been spent to teach better emailing techniques.
