You have found So Cal Central. The place for odd and creative, or maybe offbeat musings in Southern California. The Untitled One's Comments: Politics dateline Thursday June 5, 2003 A historic bill awarding virtually all the rights of marriage to homosexual "domestic partners" narrowly passed the California state Assembly late this afternoon. Gay Democrat Mark Leno of San Francisco in his remarks from the floor, insisted the bill is a civil-rights issue with personal implications. "..unlike anyone else in this chamber, we are second-class citizens," he said. "Our most cherished and honored relationships are not respected in the law." I have a relationship with my dog, but Rover isn't asking for any kind of 1st class rights. I for one will not go with the attitude of "whatever floats your boat, as long as you don't hurt me". In fact this does hurt me as a citizen of an already broke State in its quest for Socialistic, anti-Capitalistic laws, pushes the Gay agenda against the will of the people. I for one don't want my hard earned dollar going towards social programs for gay marriages. Besides, we Californians already voted on this issue and won. We approved the Protection of Marriage Initiative in March 2000, reserving marriage rights for a man and a woman only. Your Untitled-One wonders why we even bother to vote on propositions when our "dictators" in Sacramento make their own initiatives to subvert our will? Your Untitled-One believes Gays can under our constitution live as they want to live. However, I don't need to respect them with my dollar or with my mind. Our peculiar state government would have to be high on the list. Try explaining, for example, why our financially stressed public schools are hiring bureaucrats to monitor the payroll records of construction companies at the same time that they're sending layoff notices to teachers and other important employees. But that's the case, and it's about to worsen. www.sacbee.com/content/opinion/story/6782696p-7733392c.html Meanwhile in the braintrust of our state capital, AB 17 requires any business, including non-profit or religiously affiliated entities such as hospitals, colleges, social service agencies, day care centers, etc., to provide benefits to domestic partners, same as to employee's spouses, or else be cut off from state contracts. Possible ramifications: closure of hundreds or even thousands of small businesses, schools, colleges, day care centers, social service agencies, hospitals, etc. Many businesses, and especially many non-profit and religious agencies have become dependent on partnerships with the state, and upon state funding. Many of these will not compromise their principled commitment to marriage in order to continue to receive state funds. They will close. And when they do, you and your families will lose access to health care, schools, day care, social services. Oppose AB 17, at http://www.churchstate.org Your Untitled One signing out~
